Shooting the Apartment Scene!

These pictures were taken from the apartment scene that we filmed yesterday at the Leather Factors in Leicester City Centre. Me, Ricken , Chanan and Nicky were able to leave college slightly earlier as we had aranged this with our teachers so that we could do our filming. We manged to get all the shots needed done with some extra footage, within the 5 hours that we had the apartment, due to our sufficent planning and time management. As we all took it in turns to film, as the other memebers in the group would get the props ready for the next shot which was extremely useful as it made the process alot quicker.

'Ryan Leslie' album cover - Ryan Leslie

I have posted this album cover because i like that its very basic but look slick and catches the eye. It also creates a soft, sweet feeling which relates to the majority of songs that he has on this album.

Costume!

For the costume, we have chosen to go for a relaxed look. Eg Classic black Ralph Lauren, zip up sweat hoody and grey Ralph Lauren sweat pants (above images). We believe that these would be the type of cloths worn when working in a studio or in at your own apartment as you would be there for the majority of the day, so you would need something that its relaxed a comfortable. A Duffle bag would also be used to connote that he is carrying some Cd's and Producing Equipment.

These would, also be worn and used in the apartment to show continuity and to connote a homely feeling.

Props!

The props that are needed would be:

  • Apple Macbook to show technical side of music

  • Nixon headphones as they help connote the genre.

  • Clothing to connote a relaxed feeling and creates a sense of realism as these would be the typical clothing worn when at studio or own apartment.;

  • Champagne Bottle to show high life and materialism

  • Cd's as these would be owned by a producer

  • Apartment Keys to show that he owns the apartment

Story Board!

For each scene, I'm going to record many various shots such as:
- High angle shot
- Low angle shot
- Close up
- Extreme Close up
- Medium Shot
- Long shot
- Point of view shot
- Hand held

Recording all these shots for each scene, will allow us to have a selection of angles so, that we can pick and choose the most suitable one, that would fit correctly into the video and look the most professional. Also, as we only have one chance to record all the footage we need in the Leicester Apartment and London Music Studio, recording more footage than we need would be the best option.

Eminem - No Love!

I have posted this video, because i really like how the narrative in the video is strong and makes you feel exactly how they would like you to feel. I also like how they've used real life situations such as, being bullied by a group of people at your school/college which many people can relate too.

The sense of feeling/ mood this video makes you feel are:
- Loneliness
- Bullied
- Weak
- Small
- Confusion

This has influenced me, as we would like to create the same feelings for our music video.

However listening to the lyrics makes you feel that you can overcome these feelings, and become a lot stronger, exactly how the young boy did, and hit the bully.

Location!

As for our location for 'I CAN'T FIGURE IT' music video, we have decided to hire out a modern Apartment in Leicester city centre. This allows us to create a greater sense of professionalism. Were also using a Music Studio in London, which will also help create professionalism. We have chosen to use these as our locations as it would automatically gives a representation of ,materialism, wealth and power which are the usual conventions used for HIP- Hop videos and the Hip- Hop genre.

As they would both be fully furnished and equipped, this would minimise our trouble of preparing the locations to look as we would want them. However we would still need to provide lamps for extra lighting, to make the shot look there best.

As for the location we are using, were going to need to record allot more footage than necessary at every angle possible. this will allow us to pick the most suitable one as we only have one chance to shoot them, considering we were only able to hire them for one day each.

Jason Derulo - What If!

I have posted 'What If' by Jason Derulo, because i like how an apartment is used to set the scene and creates a sense of reality. It also looks very effective and fits well with the genre and image he is portraying. At first I wasn't to keen on the song, but have learned to enjoy it thanks to the video. Interesting Plot. I also like how the average, obvious ending isn't used, which keeps the audience guessing and attracted.

We would like to use a fully furnished apartment in a our video to also create a sense of reality, realism and professionalism as it is the expected genetic conventions of this genre.

Ryan Leslie - Making of 'Addiction'

This video of Ryan Leslie producing 'Addiction' has influenced us to also have a a production scene in our video that we could record in a studio if possible. We belive that it draws the audience in, and makes them want to watch the rest of the video. It also makes you, respect his work and shows his raw talent to a further extent!

Audience Profile!

For our target market, we aim to appeal to a audience who have a keen interest in the hip hop/r&b genre. I would assume the will keep up with the generic conventions eg, clothing, style and perhaps dialect. We will address our music video to such an audience by using these conventions as part of our props and costume.
